The current capacity of the Tancredo Neves International Airport in Confins, would need to be increased by at least another 3.7 million people to reach the estimated 14 million tourists who must pass through the airport during the World Cup 2014.
The initial project, which would build the capacity of Terminal 2 to 10 million more people and make Terminal 3, with a capacity of over 3.9 million, has been changed.
Terminal 2 was reduced by half, while Terminal 3 won’t be built. The problem is that the budget has already been paid by the state government. Only with the cancellation of Terminal 3, approximately R $ 22 million will be “thrown away” by Infraero.
Were invested approximately R$ 10.46 million by the Government of Minas Gerais in the preparation of basic and executive projects for Terminal 2 – not yet known whether it may be used by the dealer.
The Department of Civil Aviation has announced that the terminal will meet the current need of the airport and concessionaire which will administer it will have total freedom to develop new projects, following the example of the concessionaire of Brasilia, which resolved disassembling of the operational modules and repackage ‘it adjacent to Terminal 2.
